Hi Im a long time user of vintage Marshalls Just a few days ago I bought a VS000 AVT150 just for home use or jaming at a friends house.
To my pleasent suprise Im thinking this amp could be usable in a smaller gig or band rehearsal situation .
I like the Acoustic -Clean but not happy when switching from the OD1 (my rhythm sound) to OD 2 (Lead Sound)
For example when OD1 sounds good OD2 is too muddy etc..
Looking for into about mods to the AVT led me here.
So im wondering if anyone has worked out any small mods to even out the tonal differences between the two OD channels ?
Thanks

hi there Taipan
thats a good point..... in order to get any extra out of our od2, we have to have od1's gain at 75% and the volume at 75%
if od1's gain and vol are 10 and so is od'2, the ONLY difference is a wall of mud.
i use a boss superoverdrive pedal for the "zakk wylde" squeels, and it has become a main part of my overall sound...... further distorting/saturating/boosting the input seems to completely remove the usefullness of the od2.
a great person to talk to about this is fixr or marshall.
post your conversations here boys so i can read along.
cheers everyone. malachais

Hi guys Thanks for the input
I dont think cabs are the problem I have several 4x12 & 2x12 with various speakers.
Its the overall tone of the two OD channels , not the level.
I think OD2 needs either less Bass or More treble/upper mids since there sharing the same EQ
Im trying to avoid using any pedals
Thats why I was wondering if there are any small mods that can match up the two channels better. You know..................

You should try a different tube... There are many that have different gain settings, one of my favorites is the JAN 5751 tube that has 70% gain compared to the stock tube. This made the amp playable with no effects needed.

Let me take a look at the schematic and see what I come up with.

Hi guys you misunderstood Its not the Gain , but the TONE that I would like to address
If it was possible I would be happier with slightley more gain from OD2 LOL

I'm not familiar with the AVT150 but the schematic shows a "scoop" switch. Does yours have it? is there one for each OD or do they share it like they share the EQ? Does pressing that make any diference to tone.

hey fixer.
i have the same amp..... the scoop is independant in od1 and od2 it cuts the mids out quite a lot much more "nu metal" sound.
but they are independant of each other

Haven't forgotten you, I am waiting to hear back from someone. At this point I would be randomly guessing on what cap(s) to change. Hopefully they will help me figure it out for you.

I still havent heard back from the people I was hoping were going to help me. If you are into tinkering and feel like giving it a shot, C35 or C21 would be the ones I would try first.
