I've had my AVT-20 for a couple of years now, and I like the tones it will give, but it was just a little underpowered for gigging un-mic'd.
So, while shopping for an upright bass for my daughter (a different story altogether), I found a mint AVT-50X at the local Music Go Round for $150.00!!!!
It was a bit dusty, but otherwise in great condition. Got the chance to gig it this past weekend, and I have to say that I'm really impressed. Sounded really good with my 335, but the OD was a little "buzzy" for me. A NOS 5751 fixed that really quick. The AVT-50 is a really usable amp. It has the right mix of sound, features, and portability.
As a side note, I've sold off most of my tube amps. I still have a couple (Peavey C-30 and Mesa Heartbreaker combo), but all the others are gone. I've replaced them with either hybrids like my AVT's, or all SS amps. Lots of folks trash SS, but I get more complements on my tone with my SS/hybrid amps than I do with my Boogie...........

Wow someone is still using the board to post...lol. I know what you mean about the OD. For me a GE 5751 is the tube i settled on. I never had the chance to gig mine, I did use it at practice a few times while my TSL was being fixed. Not bad sounding, it cut thru the mix alright. Lately ive been using at home a 20 watt jetcity tube combo amp. Sadly the AVT just sits in the corner. I would never get rid of my AVT just experimenting a little with other amps.

Yes, the board has been "slow". Too bad - the AVT's are really nice amps.
The GE 5751 is also what I used, but I may go back to a 12AX7. I had a chance to gig the amp a couple more times since my post. First I used a Strat with the 12AX7. The clean was really sweet, but the OD was a bit "grainy". One the second gig I used my 335 with the 5751. The OD sounded really good, but the clean was really "dead" sounding. When I gigged the 335 the first time, I still had the 12AX7 in the amp. Since a need a really good clean sound more than a goood OD, I'll probably switch back.
Oddly enough, my AVT-20 sounds much better with a 5751. Go figure.......
