Hey guys, just put a new Groove Tubes 12ax7 in my AVT50 combo and it really woke it up, i believe the stocker was totally shot, but the amp is now quieter, the clean channel seems to have gained a little sparkle, and the OD channel isn't anywhere near as "fizzy".
Next on the list of mods is a Warehouse Veteran 30

What brand was the stock tube? Mine had an Electro Harmonics. I ended up with an old GE 5751. Tamed the fizz and hiss. Cleaned up the clean channel a bit too.

mine was also Electro Harmonics. The groove tubes tube also tamed down some of the fuzz and hiss. i also noticed a more usable clean channel as well.

When I got my used AVT a couple weeks ago, I took the stock Marshall tube and tested it in my Peavey Delta Blues by replacing a 12AX7 that was in the pre amp section (V1 position). The Marshall tube blew in about 5 seconds. It actually cracked the glass near the plate and coated the top with some white substance.
I thought this would have blown the fuse in the Delta Blues but it didn't ! I put the 12AX7 back in the Delta Blues and it works fine.... very puzzling to me.
