I've just changed the speaker for a Celestion G12 150 watt 8 ohm that I had lying around. The magnet is far more substantial and the speaker weighs about twice as much as that from the AVT. Huge difference in volume, tone and much better bottom end. I can't wait to try this in rehearsal with the band next week. It seems a shame that an otherwise good amp is undervalued, when the real failure is the cheap speaker.. The guy that recommended that I do this lives locally to me and is the amp reviewer for Guitar and Bass magazine. He also services Brian May's amps. He mentioned using high efficiency neo magnet speakers and said that these have a high db output compared to regular speakers. Anyone have any thoughts on these or any other issues raised by this post?

Yes, the original speaker on the AVT 100 is an 8 ohm.

Alright, the only issue i was thinking of was if you had a 4 ohm originally that you might lose some power going to the speaker.
