Here is a few quick pictures of doing a pre amp gain boost. I have mine set up as a footswitchable mod. You could do it so that it is always boosted or even use a toggle switch. Its as simple as running a capacitor from one resistor to ground. As you can see here on R29 there is a black wire. This is where you connect your capacitor or in my case I ran a wire so I could put the cap somewhere else. I replaced my footswitch jack to a stereo jack so that I could use a 2 botton footswitch allowing me to have channel changing and boost options. I hooked up my wire from R29 to the capacitor and connected that to the jack. When the footswitch is pressed it connects the capacitor to ground giving you the preamp gain boost. This is just a quick and dirty explanation, i can get more detailed if someone needs something specific. ***Please note, I an not am amp tech I just like to tinker and can not be held responsible for damage you may or may not do to your amplifier.***

Cool, looks easy enough. Does it add more gain or does it just cut the gain and add the boost?

It adds to the gain, makes it a little chunkier little more bass.

sold!!!!
COuld you post some procedure or anything you have?, my approach would be to start without the foor switch and then move to the footswitch option it souns very practical, like having a 3 channel avt50 (in my case), btw what amp did you make this mod to?, how long has been running up that way?

I love this mod idea, I am sending PM to fixr1984 now about it. I really dig the AVT50 but for some stuff (heavier metal) I'd like more gain. This looks to the ticket.!!!!

I just picked up an AVT50 with a bad R58 and IC1 to fix/mess with or cannibalize for parts. To crank up the gain, change R29 to 1.8K, bypass it with a 1uf. Add a 1uf cap to R33 as well. If you really want to crank it up hot, change the V1a plate resistor(R25) to 220K. These are the values for the first stage of a Soldano.
